This is the second most prestigious Ganesh Mandal. In 1636, when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Jijamata came to Pune, they sought the blessings of Goddess Jogeshwari. Later Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ploughed the land, in front of the Jogeshwari temple, with golden plough, which signifies a new beginning. Even Peshwas use to seek the blessings of the Goddess before the beginning of any difficult task.
As per the Puranas, this Goddess killed the Tamra Asur - the General of Mahishasur. That's why she is called as Tamra Yogeshwari. But later with the time, the name became Tambdi Jogeshwari.
The idol of Shri Ganesha was installed by Lokamanya Tilak himself. The idol is made up of shadu. Unlike other Ganesh Mandals, this Mandal immerses the idol of Lord Ganesha on Anant Chaturdashi every year and new idol is made every year. The idol is always kept in a silver shrine and the procession is also taken out in a silver palanquin which weighs 12.5 kg.
Many women participate in the procession of Tambadi Jogeshwari Ganesh Mandal every year. They not only participate but perform stunts like sword fights and horse riding.
