Sixty years ago it was a tiny restaurant. Along with this there are 2 more restaurants on FC road Rupali and Amrapali. All the three restaurants are run by Shetty’s family. Amrapali is famous for north Indian food. Rupali was started by Shetty’s uncle Late Shridhar Shetty.
Vaishali was ‘Madras Health Home’ and Rupali was ‘Madras Café’ that time. Vaishali has something that is attracting huge crowd since 1951. Some say that ‘something’ is its location – The FC road, some say delicious food, some say the ambience and some say the swift & cordial service! In the beginning it was an ‘adda’ for college students studying in Fergusson College. Today it has become a household name in Pune.
The restaurant is serving more than two generations in Pune. In the restaurant you will see the people in their 60s + college crowd + the newlywed couples. Many people know the waiters by their name, as many waiters are working here for more than 20 years! Sixty years ago it was a tiny restaurant where only south Indian delicacies were served. Later Pizzas, burgers and chat items were added to the menu. The garden space with a fountain (behind the restaurant and top floor was made open to the public.
Now, the lip-smacking food! The most favorite items which Punekars order in Vaishali are: Vaishali Special Masala Dosa, Cheese onion Uttapam, Mysore Cheese Dosa, Onion Uttapam, SPDP (Shev Potato Dahi Puri), Dahi Idli, Udid Vada and Special Bhelpuri.
